LAS VEGAS — Today, following reporting of racist, xenophobic comments from Nye County Commissioner Donna Cox against Nevada First Lady Kathy Sisolak, the chair of the Nevada State Democratic Party Judith Whitmer made the following statement:
“The blatantly racist remarks made against First Lady Kathy Sisolak are unconscionable, and a disgusting symptom of the larger hatred and bigotry we’ve seen on display against our Asian-American and Pacific Islander community over the last two years as we’ve weathered the COVID-19 pandemic. There is no room for this ignorance and racism in our state. Not against our First Lady, not against anybody. Commissioner Cox must be held accountable immediately, and we must put others with these indefensible anti-Asian sentiments on notice. Kathy Sisolak is a dedicated Nevadan, and we stand in support of her and our Governor.”
