The South Washoe DEMS Climate Change Champions committee is once again collecting broken or unwanted strings of holiday lights this season. Since the strings cannot be included in regular recycle containers, we encourage you to contribute your strings to the lights recycling project. Holiday lights are made from copper, glass, and plastic—some of these materials can be recycled and reclaimed. In addition to the Neighborhood collection locations, 3 fire stations have been added as collection sites through January 9th.
Now thru January 8, 2022, simply drop your lights off in the labelled collection box at one of our drop-off locations:
Neighborhood | Address |
ArrowCreek | 2973 Eagle Rock Court or 2764 Spirit Rock Trail |
Damonte Ranch | 2455 Makenna Drive or 2311 Clementine Lane or 11245 Messina Way |
Hidden Valley | 5951 Indus Drive |
Pleasant/Steamboat and Washoe Valleys | 184 Concho Drive |
Saddlehorn / Fieldcreek | 70 Margarita Court |
Toll Road | 1615 Moon Lane |
Virginia Foothills | 14385 Riata Circle |
Now through January 9th (one day longer than the residential locations), these fire stations will have plastic trash cans placed in an obvious location for lights collection. The cans will have a sign on them identifying our project. PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST INFORMATION ABOUT THE LIGHTS COLLECTION FROM THE FIRE FIGHTERS! These stations have kindly offered space for us, but the project is our responsibility.
Fire Station | Address |
ArrowCreek, Station #36 | 13500 Thomas Creek Road |
Hidden Valley, Station #37 | 3255 Hidden Valley Drive |
Foothill, Station #33 | 470 Foothill Road |
